Students see RSC perform King Lear

By Ashley Pearce, Year 10

On 28th September, 12 students visited Brannel School to see a touring King Lear production by the Royal Shakespeare Company. This was to help with their GCSE English Literature studies of Shakespeare in performance.

In a memorable evening the actors and actresses performed the tragedy with skill and high quality. Mrs Emma Lucas-Cann, English teacher, said: “To see the RSC perform is a rare opportunity here in Cornwall and it was a wonderful experience to see the play brought to life by such talented actors and actresses.”

There was also a chance for a Question and Answer session at the end of the performance, which enabled the audience to connect with the actors and actresses. This added to a better understanding of the performance. Mrs Lucas-Cann added: “The questions provided a real insight into the way Shakespeare’s works are adapted for the modern stage and was the perfect finishing touch.”
