Convincing win for Year 7
By Sam, Year 7 Match Reporter
The second match of the term for Year 7 was away at Bodmin College. Fowey had a very enthusiastic team following some successful training sessions. Play was led with a strong kick-off from Tom, followed by Tristan chasing the ball, surviving tackles and getting the first try. That was the start of the game for Fowey, who continued to perform strongly. Fowey kept command of the ball though good tackling, rucking and scrummaging. Overall it was excellent play by Year , who performed many times better than at the last game against Penrice.
Mr Hayward, Head of PE, said: “The Year 7 team put in a fantastic performance. The students have worked extremely hard so far this season, and this team has huge potential.”
Final score: Fowey 54, Bodmin 0
Speed and agility lead Year 8 to victory
By Eliot, Year 8 Match Reporter
Fowey lost the toss and was forced to play uphill for the first half. Despite this challenge, after kick-off, the tries came flying in with Eliot Salt [reporter] scoring the first try. Our conversion-taker and promising fly-half, Will Miranda, kept our heads high as he took the first kick and gained us an extra two points.
As the first half went on, the next two tries were scored by our speedy winger, Henry. The game continued and our tackling went on beautifully with quick-stepping scrum half, Omar, zooming and covering a lot of ground. We were up 17-0 by the end of the first half and things were looking promising.
In the next half, we were playing down hill, so we had the advantage, but Bodmin put us under a lot more pressure in the second half, so we had to up our game, which meant more tackling and better rucking.
As a ruck emerged on the twenty-two metre line, the majority of our team got over and stood their ground, waiting for Omar to pick and pass. When he did, Ryan came out of nowhere and stormed past the ruck, then broke Bodmin’s defensive barrier; he kept charging and dived for the try line. This brought the game to a final score of 22-0 to Fowey.
Final score: Fowey 22, Bodmin 0
