Year 9 History students are marking Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January with their own memorial models. The date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp in WW2.
The theme of this year’s day is Build A Bridge, whereby people can build a bridge in their own community through generating awareness of genocide in the modern world. Holocaust Memorial Day provides an opportunity for everyone to learn lessons from the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides and apply them to the present day to create a better future.
Mr Bayes, History teacher, says: “The purpose of studying the Holocaust in this way is that making a model really engages the students, and so they will remember this story. They’re of superb quality and forty memorials will be on display around the school on Friday.”
