Congratulations to Jake Penprase in Year 9 following his selection for the prestigious Exeter Chiefs Elite Player Development Group (EPDG) in rugby.
Jake played for Lankelly RFC until 2012 when he moved to Truro RFC after being selected to train with the Cornwall Schools of Rugby U13 squad. Jake was spotted at one of these training sessions.
Robin Cowling, Exeter Chiefs Academy Manager, explains that EPDG targets “players who have trained with the Cornwall Schools of Rugby, and have been seen to have potential that will benefit from extra top quality coaching”. Jake will now access coaching, mentoring and fitness advice from the Exeter Chiefs staff.
Mr Perry said: “It’s great to see the commitment Jake is making in working towards his dream of a career in rugby. It’s a real achievement to have been selected for one of the top teams in the country and we are very proud of Jake.”
This news follows the selection of three Year 10 Fowey students for the U15 Cornwall rugby squad in February. Harry Smith, Toby Hodson (also a member of the Chiefs EPDG) and Charlie Shakespear received their first cap in a county match this month.
