County golf success

Year 8 student Danny has been capped for the county in golf.

Danny is a member of Carlyon Bay Golf Club and practises every weekend with his dad. Danny is also the youngest golfer on the Carlyon Bay team at just 13; the rest of his team are 16 and above. He now plays for the U14 Cornwall team too.

“I’ve been playing golf since I was around six years old,” says Danny. “It got to a point where football and golf events were clashing, so I had to choose which one I would pursue, and I chose for golf. I enjoy it because it’s both an individual and a team sport.”

Danny and his teammates meet weekly for a round of golf and either play a friendly or play a match for a trophy and Danny hopes to eventually pursue high level golf after college, potentially in the USA. For now, he’s enjoying being part of a local academy and receiving the expert tuition which has enabled him to be selected to play for Cornwall at such a young age.

Danny is inspired by watching the experts on TV. “I admire Ian Poulter and Adam Scott for the way they carry themselves both on and off the course. They are really professional,” says Danny.
