Three Year 10 students are creating the first exhibition for the newly-reopened Old Press Gallery in St Austell.
The exhibition, which forms part of the Silver Arts Award for Year 10 students Izzy, Laura and Ellie, will run between Monday 17th June and Sunday 30th June, opening with a Private View on Friday 21st June 6-9pm. The event will feature all final pieces of work from the students’ Arts Award challenge.
The students completed their Bronze Arts Award in 2012 and have now moved onto the next level, which includes a range of extra-curricular activities.
Gallery owner Charlie Ratcliffe is delighted that the girls will be reopening the gallery after a two-month spell of refurbishment. “I am looking forward to seeing some really vibrant work in this lovely bright space,” she says. “I am really impressed that the girls are organising, planning and running the whole event themselves. It shows a real commitment to their work.”
Headteacher John Perry says: “Ellie, Izzy and Laura have shown dedication towards attaining this award, in addition to working really hard on their GCSE curriculum subjects. Emma Bray, our Art Technician, has supported the girls at every stage and I wish them well in their exhibition. I am certain it will be a huge success.”
