Year 9 student Shannon Mae has been selected to compete at the televised All England Schools Athletics Championships at Alexander Stadium on Friday 5th and Sat 6th July. She will run a leg of the 4 x 100m relay.
Shannon Mae was selected following a strong performance at Exeter Arena on Saturday 15th June where she represented Cornwall at the Southwest County Championships with Year 9 student Jake who ran the 100 metres.
Shannon Mae’s relay team were second and reached the Championships with an excellent qualifying time. She says: “It is a really great experience. Once you leave Cornwall, you notice that the competition is really intense.”
Shannon Mae is a member of the Cornwall Athletics Club, while Jake has been talent-scouted for the Exeter Chiefs elite player development group and undertakes sprint training as part of his rugby preparation. Both have also been invited to a competition in Barnet in August.
Mr Hayward says: “It is a fantastic achievement for Shannon Mae and Jake to be competing at this level. We are very proud that our students are representing the region at a national level. We look forward to seeing how far they both excel in their respective events and wish them great success.”
