National windsurfing

Original report by Liam Sandey, Year 8. Updated 14th October 2013

This weekend members of the Polkerris Pirates Team15 windsurfing group competed at the nationals at Pitsford Lake in Northamptonshire.

This offered the team an opportunity to compete in a high level windsurfing event, taking part in numerous races over the weekend.

George, Eddie, Oscar, Imogen and Jowan all performed well, with the Pirates coming 6th overall.

Pirates coach George Shillito says: “The highlight of the weekend was the final race in which Oscar gybed and glided his way into the top five  in the 4.5 fleet, while his younger brother Eddie stamped his authority in the 3.5 fleet by claiming a well-deserved second place. George and Imogen also put in a fine performance working their way to some of their best results of the weekend.”

Coach George adds: “Jowan had his work cut out in the 5.8 class, but despite having a slightly smaller sail then most at 5.5m, he carried on undeterred. Some precision starts meant he was a force to be reckoned with throughout the two days.”
