Adam in Year 8 is one of just 18 Cornish Scouts to be selected to attend the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan in summer 2015.
Adam is an active member of local Polkerris Scout Group and when he heard about the selection process from a fellow scout, he jumped at the chance to apply. The application process involved learning a Japanese phrase and explaining three cultural differences between the UK and Japan.
Perfectly timed for Adam was a visit to Polkerris by a guest speaker from Japan invited by fellow Scout Group for boys ages 14-18, the Polkerris Explorers.
After the success of his initial application, Adam was one of 100 Scouts from across the county shortlisted to attend a selection weekend at which teambuilding skills were assessed. This involved camping, games and competitions. In January, Adam received a letter to confirm his selection.
“The thing I am most excited about is meeting people from other countries,” says Adam.
