As Autism Awareness falls in the Easter holiday this year, the Robin Read Learning centre decided to organise an Awareness day of their own on the 24th March. A selection of students from every year group and some of our parents took part in putting together a PowerPoint on Autism and its impacts. The students made an abundance of arts and crafts with the Autism logo the puzzle piece as the theme. Some designed and printed their own T-shirt to wear on the day and they all made their own invitations to send out for the planned coffee morning. The tea and coffee morning was run by the students for parents and staff and helped to raise the awareness of Autism in an informal setting. There was a large turnout and everyone, especially the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Mrs Marney (Autism Champion) said ‘that all students involved worked extremely hard and were a real credit to the school’. Ms Annear (Staff Governor) said ‘it was wonderful to see so many parents involved in the day’.
